It appears the reaction was worse than originally reported and will actually have his leg amputated at the hip now.

That should be fun to watch him try and hold a dozen crotes in his mouth with one leg!! When you do those kind of antics for that long your bound to get bit and eventually get killed.

I hate to wish ill on anyone, but it's hard not too sometimes.

Here is what is on TV right now:

    * Child abuse (kids dancing, kids modeling, parents fighting, kids crying)

    * Killing animals (supposed nature channels that show people killing gators/snakes/etc at point blank range for fun/sport)

Not the best state of affairs for American TV...

I seldom watch animal planet or discovery channel. Used to but it's crap now.

Gotta agree with Fe man.... I limit my television to uplifting stuff nowadays.... Enough with the violence and cruelty.... Or maybe I just have LT...

It's a shame that anyone has to undergo this type of extremely severe injury but it's obvious that this guy was destined to either have a serious bite or get killed. His antics have besmirched herpetology in general. He claims that he's not out of the game but I'll bet that he is. From what I read it sounds like progressive compartment syndrome. If someone like Sean Bush had received the case early enough, the outcome may have been different but that's just speculation. The whole thing leaves me with mixed emotions and a bad taste in my mouth!

I had the dubious pleasure of meeting Mr. Bibby about two years ago in Fort Worth. Texas Parks and Wildlife was hosting a meeting regarding their potential legislative measures against using gasoline to drive snakes out of their dens/burrows (which is absolutely idiotic since it is already a federal crime to dispense gasoline on the ground). Much to my surprise, Mr. Bibby was one of the few people there that voiced their opinion AGAINST the use of gasoline for collecting methods. He spoke of the dying practice of rattlesnake round-ups and how maybe it was for the best that people let it go.

Needless to say, I was completely shocked. Understand, this man was speaking in front of us wearing a bowler hat made out of atrox skin, and he kept proving his point by pointing his gnarled and mostly missing fingers at us. Still, he was (in his own way, granted) making a statement that was pro-nature and pro-rattlesnakes.

Very weird. No matter what, I do not wish this kind of thing on anyone.
